UC women’s tennis falls 4-0 to Houston on Senior Day

On April 12, 2026, the University of Cincinnati (UC) women’s tennis team closed out its home schedule at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center, falling 4-0 to the University of Houston Cougars. The match also served as Senior Day, as UC honored Caterina Greco, Rozalia Gruszczynska and Isabel Pacheco in a postmatch ceremony recognizing their contributions to the program.  

The match began with three doubles contests, followed by six singles matches. Houston earned the doubles point after winning two of the three matches to take an early lead.

The Cougars set the tone early in doubles play, earning wins from Valeriia Krokhotina, Iva Sepa, Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli.

UC responded with a strong performance from Gabrielle Guenther and Tara Kurepa, who secured the Bearcats’ lone doubles win. Houston ultimately claimed the doubles point to take early control of the match.

In singles play, Houston carried its momentum and quickly took charge. Krokhotina defeated UC’s Sakurako Watanabe, Sepa beat Kurepa and Schouten defeated Milica Popovski, as the Cougars clinched the match with three straight singles victories to seal the 4-0 result.

Despite the final score, several Bearcats kept their matches competitive before play was halted. Guenther battled Elizaveta Morozova, Gruszczynska played a tight match against Zeghlouli and Pacheco competed closely against Gabriela Cortes. All three matches went unfinished after Houston secured the win.

Following the conclusion of play, the Bearcats honored their seniors, recognizing their leadership and dedication as they closed out their collegiate careers on their home courts.

With the regular season complete, the Bearcats will turn their attention to postseason play. UC is set to travel to Orlando, Florida, for the Big 12 Tournament beginning Wednesday, April 15, looking to regroup and carry its competitive effort into the next stage of the season.
